Elena Sommaruga, originally from Lugano, has always been passionate about international affairs, with a particular focus on the ethical challenges faced by global organisations. After gaining practical experience in the complexities of European policy-making in Brussels, she decided to deepen her academic knowledge by pursuing a Master’s degree in Conflict, Peace and Security at the IHEID in Geneva. This decision was driven by her strong interest in understanding and addressing the root causes of inequalities, migration and cultural dynamics on a global scale.
Elena is particularly invested in exploring how ethical considerations can be integrated into policy-making to ensure that solutions are both just and equitable. She believes that addressing global challenges requires a targeted, context-specific approach, informed by a deep understanding of the diverse realities of different communities. By advocating for a multilateral and open approach to international relations, she aims to challenge and overcome ethnocentric perspectives to create a world where justice and fairness are the cornerstones of international politics.
