Across Switzerland and internationally, young people face an increasingly complex security environment, from hybrid threats and disinformation to climate risks and geopolitical uncertainty. What concerns shape their perceptions of security, and how can their voices be better integrated into public debate and policymaking? This event, co-organized by the Center for Security Studies (CSS) and foraus, explores what security means for youth today, how they can contribute to a more peaceful future and how their voices shape Switzerland’s security policy landscape.
Join us for an engaging panel discussion with the following young experts:
Selina Berner (confirmed), is a Swiss journalist, working in journalism since 2012, first in local media, followed by a traineeship in radio and online at SRF and later as a live reporter for Blick-TV. She subsequently served in a peace-support mission for the Swiss Armed Forces in Kosovo before joining the SRF Rundschau as an editor. Since August, she has been an editor for security policy in the Domestic/Parliamentary Affairs desk of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ).
Jascha Heynen (confirmed), is a PhD Candidate at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on activities in the gray zone between peace and war (often referred to as „hybrid warfare"). He devotes particular attention to influence operations and disinformation as well as to critical infrastructure sabotage. Prior to joining CSS, Jascha worked for the Specialist Committees of the Swiss Parliament in Bern.
Fynn Kaltenpoth, works in adelphi's Climate Diplomacy & Security programme in Berlin. His interest in the field stems from early experiences in environmental mediation and his prior role as Associate Program Officer with swisspeace. Since then, he has engaged across various mediation tracks and now focuses on climate-informed mediation and the ways green finance can contribute to peace.The event will begin with opening remarks by Dr. Daniel Möckli, Head of the CSS Think Tank. These will be followed by a brief presentation of key insights from recent youth and security studies, setting the stage for the panel discussion moderated by Karin Hess, Management Support and Researcher at the CSS Think Tank and Jessica Fenger, Co-Head foraus Zurich.
The evening concludes with an apéro to continue the conversation. The event will be held in English.
