Foreign Policy Day

Thought-provoking debates on pressing foreign policy issues: in 2019, foraus initiated the «Foreign Policy Day» together with the Swiss Association for Foreign Affairs (SGA-ASPE). Intended as an annual meeting place for the foreign policy scene, this initiative aims to improve networking between foreign policy players from politics, business, civil society and diplomacy. High-level guests deliver impulses for new ways of thinking in the current foreign policy debate and initiate new topics. The involvement of civil society organizations is of particular importance.

The thematic framework of the «Foreign Policy Day» 2020 is composed of three focal points:

 

Swiss European Policy

Local and global sustainability

The Swiss candidacy for the UN Security Council.

 

MEP Andreas Schwab and National Councillor Eric Nussbaumer will engage in a debate on the relations between Switzerland and the EU.

Prof. Dr. Peter Messerli, Director of the Wyss Academy for Nature at the University of Bern, will provide inputs on a more sustainable Switzerland and its commitment to global sustainability.

Furthermore, the United Nations Association Switzerland (GSUN) and the Europa Forum Lucerne will round off the event with workshops on Switzerland’s candidacy for the UN Security Council and Swiss European policy. The network Platform Agenda 2030 will offer a workshop on sustainability issues with a foreign policy scope.
