Romano served from 2017 to 2021 in the Pontifical Swiss Guard under Pope Francis at the Vatican, where he gained firsthand insight into the Holy See’s diplomatic engagements and international outreach. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Basel. Drawing on these first-hand experiences and his deep interest in global affairs, he wrote his bachelor’s thesis on the peace teachings and the Just War theory of St. Augustine, analysing their relevance in contemporary contexts. After a short internship at Vatican Radio in Rome, he is now an MA candidate at the Institute for European Global Studies in Basel with specialization in International Organizations and Peace & Conflict Research.
