Gaya holds a Master’s degree in International Security with a specialisation in Human Security from the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals and a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from the University of St. Gallen. Her background combines perspectives from international relations, governance, economics, and law, with a focus on migration, development, and protection. She currently works with refugees and asylum seekers at the cantonal level and volunteers with the Swiss Red Cross. Her interests include migration governance, integration policies, and human security in international contexts.

Switzerland’s foreign policy is being reshaped by geopolitical fragmentation, fiscal pressure, militarisation, technological disruption, and climate crisis. At the same time, progress on gender equality is facing growing pushback. This publication argues that gender backlash is not a marginal issue, but a structural trend. It also argues that gender equality is not a symbolic add-on, but a condition for a credible and effective foreign policy.
