Lea is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in International and Development Studies at the Geneva Graduate Institute, focusing on conflict, peace and security. She’s especially interested in security and peace policy, the Western Balkans and transitional justice. She gained valuable insights into these areas and the broader world of multilateral diplomacy during her internship at the Swiss Mission to NATO in Brussels. Before that, she worked as the Engagement Intern at foraus. Since September 2025, Lea has been regional Co-Head in Geneva, where she enjoys contributing ideas, supporting collaborative projects and helping to create an open and inclusive space for dialogue.

Switzerland’s foreign policy is being reshaped by geopolitical fragmentation, fiscal pressure, militarisation, technological disruption, and climate crisis. At the same time, progress on gender equality is facing growing pushback. This publication argues that gender backlash is not a marginal issue, but a structural trend. It also argues that gender equality is not a symbolic add-on, but a condition for a credible and effective foreign policy.
